Isaiah 52:13-53:12

Beneath the cross of Jesus

A home within the wilderness, A rest upon the way, From the burning of the noontide heat, And the burden of the day.
2. Upon that cross of Jesus Mine eye at times can see The very dying form of One, Who suffered there for me;
And from my smitten heart, with tears, Two wonders I confess, The wonders of His glorious love, And my own worthlessness.
3. I take, O cross, thy shadow For my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than The sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by, To know no gain nor loss, My sinful self my only shame, My glory all the cross.

The Old Rugged Cross
1. On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain.
2. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary.
3. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me.
4. To that old rugged cross I will ever be true, Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then He'll call me some day to my home far away, Where His glory forever I'll share.
(Refrain) So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
John 13:1,4-5,15-17;34-35; John 14:26-27; 15:11-17; 26-27; 16:7-11; John 16:33; 17:4-5,22
Psalm 40

Ivory Palaces
1. My Lord has garments so wondrous fine, And myrrh their texture fills;
Its fragrance reached to this heart of mine With joy my being thrills.
Refrain: Out of the ivory palaces, Into a world of woe, Only His great eternal love Made my Savior go.
2. His life had also its sorrows sore, For aloes had a part;
And when I think of the cross He bore, My eyes with teardrops start. [Refrain]
3. His garments, too, were in cassia dipped, With healing in a touch;
In paths of sin had my feet e'er slipped—He's saved me from its clutch. [Refrain]
4 In garments glorious He will come, To open wide the door;
And I shall enter my heav'nly home, To dwell forevermore. [Refrain]
Luke 21:37-38
And every day He was teaching in the temple, but at night He went out and lodged on the mount called Olivet.
And early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him.

4 The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning He awakens; He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. 5 The Lord GOD has opened My ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward. 6 I gave My back to those who strike, and My cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not My face from disgrace and spitting. 7 But the Lord GOD helps Me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. 8 He who vindicates Me is near. Who will contend with Me? Let us stand up together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near to Me. 9 Behold, the Lord GOD helps Me; who will declare Me guilty? Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them up.

When I survey the wondrous cross
1. When I survey the wondrous Cross On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.
2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.
3. See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
4. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.
Luke 21:1-4, 8-9, 17-19, 34-36, 37-38
1 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, 2 and He saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 And He said, "Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
8 And He said, "See that you are not led astray. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and, 'The time is at hand!' Do not go after them. 9 And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once."
17 You will be hated by all for My name's sake. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your lives.
34 "But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."
37 And every day He was teaching in the temple, but at night He went out and lodged on the mount called Olivet. 38 And early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him.
Isaiah 49:1-11
Listen to Me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The LORD called Me from the womb, from the body of My mother He named My name. He made My mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He hid Me; He made Me a polished arrow; in His quiver He hid Me away. And He said to Me, "You are My servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified." But I said, "I have labored in vain; I have spent My strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely My right is with the LORD, and My recompense with My God." And now the LORD says, He Who formed Me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob back to Him; and that Israel might be gathered to Him— for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and My God has become My strength—He says: "It is too light a thing that You should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make You as a light for the nations, that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth." Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall prostrate themselves; because of the LORD, Who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, Who has chosen You." Thus says the LORD: "In a time of favor I have answered You; in a day of salvation I have helped You; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages, saying to the prisoners, 'Come out,' to those who are in darkness, 'Appear.' They shall feed along the ways; on all bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them, for He Who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. And I will make all My mountains a road, and My highways shall be raised up.
Monday
Mark 11:12-18
On the following day, when they came from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if He could find anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And He said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And His disciples heard it. And they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. And He would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. And He was teaching them and saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers." And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy Him, for they feared Him, because all the crowd was astonished at His teaching.
Behold My Servant, Whom I uphold, My chosen, in Whom My soul delights; I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up His voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed He will not break, and a faintly burning wick He will not quench; He will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for His law. Thus says God, the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and what comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: "I am the LORD; I have called You in righteousness; I will take You by the hand and keep You; I will give You as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the LORD; that is My name; My glory I give to no other, nor My praise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them."
Rock of Ages
www.hymnCompanions.org/Mar/10/stream.php
www.hymnary.org/text/rock_of_ages_cleft_for_me_let_me_hide
1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee; let the water and the blood,
from Thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure.
2 Not the labors of my hands can fulfill Thy law's demands; could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
3 Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to Thee for dress;
helpless, look to Thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.
4 While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown,
see Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.

Isaiah 52:13-53:12

and I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain.
2. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary.
3. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me.
4. To that old rugged cross I will ever be true, Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then He'll call me some day to my home far away, Where His glory forever I'll share.
(Refrain) So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.
John 13:1,4-5,15-17;34-35; John 14:26-27; 15:11-17; 26-27; 16:7-11; John 16:33; 17:4-5,22
Psalm 40

Its fragrance reached to this heart of mine With joy my being thrills.
Refrain: Out of the ivory palaces, Into a world of woe, Only His great eternal love Made my Savior go.
2. His life had also its sorrows sore, For aloes had a part;
And when I think of the cross He bore, My eyes with teardrops start. [Refrain]

4 In garments glorious He will come, To open wide the door;
And I shall enter my heav'nly home, To dwell forevermore. [Refrain]

4. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small;

1 Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee; let the water and the blood,
from Thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure.
2 Not the labors of my hands can fulfill Thy law's demands; could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
3 Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to Thee for dress;
helpless, look to Thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.
4 While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown,
see Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
